Our annual meetings this year were separated by several months the first being held at Waveney River Centre on the Southern Broads network in mid June and the second Northern Broads meet held at Salhouse in mid September.
Our long range weather forecasting technique came good once again (or maybe we have just been extremely lucky over the last 5 years!) as both meetings benefited from dry sunny weather for the whole of each event and days either side once again.
Both events were well attended by familiar "annual regulars" as well as several new boats and crews joining us for the first or second time.
We had 11 boats and crews for the Waveney meeting, our numbers being unavoidably reduced due to an accident (badly broken ankle), severe illness, and other unavoidable incidents impacting three crews.
The major surprise of the Waveney meeting was the appearance of Jim and Sue on Chiltern Lady instead of Bluebell. Having upgraded just a few days prior to the meet Jim took us all by surprise. A weekend of severe ribbing and banter ensued, which Jim took in very good part whilst giving as good as he got in return (as always )....
2018 also saw the departure of the live aboard dutch barge Adjo and the extremely helpful and efficient Alan Fry who helped to manage the visitor moorings at Waveney River Centre. Adjo was being moved from Waveney to the Essex coastline a couple of days after our meet so it was good to be able to say thank you and goodbye to Alan and his wife, and to wish them all the best for the future. We will miss his splendid deck top flower and vegetable garden displays at future meets!
In all 17 boats attended the Salhouse event and we were back on our favoured No2 moorings. Our surprise bonus for the Salhouse meet was the arrival of "Wild Thyme", one of the last surviving Safari Mk4's, recently acquired by Ted. Many members enjoyed the short guided tours provided by Ted and a chance to check out the quite different features of the Mk4 compared with earlier variants.
